Cager's Coffee is a Gentle Coffee Option for Sensitive Stomachs

Coffee is a beloved beverage worldwide, but for many, it can cause discomfort, especially for those with sensitive stomachs. The acidity and compounds in coffee sometimes lead to irritation, heartburn, or indigestion. Fortunately, Cager's Coffee Hut offers gentle coffee blends designed to be easier on the digestive system.

Understanding Stomach-Friendly Coffee

When looking for stomach-friendly coffee, it’s important to understand what makes coffee harsh or gentle on the stomach. The acidity level, roast type, and brewing method all play a role in how your stomach reacts. At, Cager's Coffee Hut we use low-acid and single-orgin beans in all our blends.

  • Low-acid coffee beans: These beans are naturally less acidic and can reduce stomach irritation.

  • Dark roasts: Darker roasts tend to have lower acidity compared to light roasts.

  • Cold brew: This brewing method produces coffee with less acid and bitterness.

  • Single-origin beans: Some regions produce beans with naturally lower acid content.

Choosing the right coffee blend can make a significant difference. For example, beans from Brazil or Sumatra are often less acidic and more stomach-friendly. Additionally, opting for organic and freshly roasted beans can help avoid additives that might upset your stomach. We at Cager's Coffee use beans from Brazil and the Sumatra region in our coffee blends.

Is Coffee Good for a Sensitive Stomach?

Many wonder if coffee is suitable at all for sensitive stomachs. The answer depends on the individual and the type of coffee consumed. Coffee contains compounds like caffeine and chlorogenic acids that can stimulate acid production in the stomach, potentially causing discomfort. Our coffee at Cager's Coffee is very low in chlorogenic acids which means it's easy on the stomach and essentially heart-burn free. The amount of caffeine is also very low, and because we do not add any perservatives to our coffee blends, the flavor is 100% all natural.

How we process our beans:

"Green Coffee", processing is a important factor in determining the final flavor for all our Coffee blends. Our blends all use the "NaturaDry Process" or more commonly referred to as "Traditonal Dried, Sun-dried, or Cherry-dried", where the natural process will leave the coffee seed (bean) in the cherry to ferment for roughly two weeks. The coffee is rotated multiple times per day to ensure even drying. Then the seed (bean) is removed from the cherry using a pulper.

Fermentation and Washing of the beans:

After pulping, a bit of mucilage (fruit) will stick to the coffee seed (beans). To complete the fermentation process, the beans are placed in large open-air tanks, where the remaining mucilage is broken down. After fermentation, the coffee is moved through long shallow troughs which washes away any sofened mucilage. It's during this process that the lower quality coffee is separated from the higher quality coffee, as the higher quality beans sink to the bottom of the troughs.

Cager's Coffee Flavor Profile:

Our "Natural flavor", coffee blends tend to have bold fruit flavors because of the time spent in contact with the fruit's flesh, such as cherry, strawberry, peaches and a host of other tropical fruit flavors.

At Cager's Coffee Hut, we want to offer everyone, and especialy those whom may have sensitive stomachs the opportunity to enjoy a good cup of coffee in the morning, without bitter after-taste, heart-burn, reflux or an upset stomach. All our blends offer little to no acidty and bring to your taste buds a high quality of flavor, we know you will enjoy! The key to selecting any coffee blend is to make sure you minimizes acidity and avoid additives like sugar and cream that may exacerbate symptoms.

Best Gentle Coffee Options for Sensitive Stomachs

Here are some of the best coffee options that are easier on the stomach:

1. Low-Acid Coffee Blends

We at Cager's Coffee offer many blends and all of them specialize in low-acid coffee, which is less likely to cause stomach upset. The beans are grown at lower altitudes and we apply special roasting techniques to reduce acidity.

2. Cold Brew Coffee

Cold brew coffee can be made by steeping brewed coffee grounds in cold water, within a pitcher for 12-24 hours. This method extracts fewer acids and results in a smoother, less bitter cup. Cold brew is an excellent choice for those with sensitive stomachs. All Cager's Coffee hut blends are an excellent choice for creating cold brew coffee.

3. Dark Roast Coffee

Dark roasts have a richer flavor and lower acidity than light or medium roasts. The longer roasting process breaks down some of the acids, making the coffee gentler on the stomach. We at Cager's Coffee offer a dark roast blend.

4. Decaffeinated Coffee

Caffeine can irritate the stomach lining, so decaf coffee might be a better option. Look for our decaf coffee which is low in acid to maximize your coffee experience comfort.
